Transformative Leap: Himanta Biswa Sarma Ignites Excitement with Zoo Modernisation and Jyoti Chitraban Auditorium Foundation Stones
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently laid the foundation for two key infrastructure projects in Guwahati, aimed at advancing the city’s environmental and cultural landscape. These projects include the modernization of the Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden and the construction of a 1,000-seat auditorium at Jyoti Chitraban, with projected costs of Rs 362 crore and Rs 54 crore, respectively. These initiatives are set to elevate Guwahati as a center for wildlife conservation and cultural development. At the ceremony, Chief Minister Sarma highlighted the dual objective of these projects: to safeguard biodiversity and celebrate Assam’s rich cultural heritage.
In addition to these infrastructure ventures, the Chief Minister launched 56 new electric buses, increasing Guwahati’s environmentally friendly public transport fleet to 256 vehicles. During this event, Sarma emphasized the city’s dedication to public comfort and environmental preservation.
Furthermore, Chief Minister Sarma inaugurated a newly constructed Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) at Khanapara, worth Rs 12 crore. This modern facility is designed to improve travel convenience for passengers traveling to and from Guwahati, especially benefiting those from Upper Assam. The terminal is equipped with various passenger-friendly amenities, marking a significant enhancement in regional transportation infrastructure.
These developments reflect the Assam government’s commitment to transforming Guwahati into a model city for sustainable growth, cultural richness, and increased connectivity.
