Honoring Manmohan Singh’s Vital Legacy: NSCN (IM) Celebrates a Pivotal Chapter in the Indo-Naga Peace Journey

Amritsar: On December 28, 2024, NCC cadets gathered at Hindu College, Amritsar, to honor the memory of the late former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, an esteemed alumnus.

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 28: The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah), or NSCN (IM), has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, recognizing his pivotal role in the Indo-Naga peace process. In its statement, the Ministry of Information and Publicity (MIP) of the NSCN (IM) praised Dr. Singh as a visionary and principled leader who significantly contributed to addressing the Naga political issue.

Dr. Singh was remembered for his dedication to achieving a peaceful resolution to the protracted Indo-Naga conflict. During his tenure, he boldly engaged with Naga leaders and advocated for innovative “out-of-the-box” solutions. He assured mutual understanding and collaboration during the sixth round of talks on December 7, 2004, emphasizing sincerity and exploring all avenues for an honorable resolution.

The NSCN (IM) acknowledged his proactive stance, including appointing three ministers to negotiate directly with the group and his personal meetings with chief negotiator Th. Muivah. The organization’s statement emphasized that Dr. Singh’s legacy of seeking a just solution remains impactful among the Naga people, underscoring their loss of a leader who championed mutual respect and understanding.

In a separate condolence message, NSCN (IM) General Secretary Th. Muivah commemorated Dr. Singh’s leadership, reflecting on their 2010 meeting, which showcased the former Prime Minister’s profound insight into Naga issues. Muivah praised Dr. Singh’s integrity and genuine commitment, pointing out his assignment of a dedicated ministerial team to engage with the NSCN (IM).

Muivah conveyed heartfelt condolences to Dr. Singh’s family and the people of India, highlighting his significant understanding of Naga history and rights, and concluded with a wish for Dr. Singh’s soul to rest in eternal peace.
