Exciting Unveiling: Final Electoral Rolls Released for Pivotal 2025 Panchayat Polls in 27 Assam Districts
The State Election Commission of Assam has finalized the voters’ list for the upcoming Panchayat elections in 27 districts, excluding those under the Sixth Schedule and municipal areas. Announced on Sunday, the final electoral rolls include a total of 18,014,913 voters: 9,060,640 males, 8,953,865 females, and 408 identifying as the third gender. These elections will cover 397 Zilla Parishad Constituencies (ZPCs).
Following a recent delimitation conducted by the Assam government, the rolls have been meticulously prepared and are now accessible at Gaon Panchayat offices, Block Development Offices, Zilla Parishads, and through District Commissioner’s offices. Additionally, voters can easily verify their enrollment using their EPIC number or download relevant information from the Citizen Corner section of the Commission’s website. New voters still have the chance to be added to the rolls if they meet criteria as of January 1, 2025, ensuring inclusivity in the approaching democratic exercise.
In an effort to resolve hindrances, the Panchayat and Rural Development Minister, Ranjeet Kumar Dass, revealed plans to petition the Gauhati High Court on January 3. This action seeks permission to proceed with the elections, previously stalled due to an ongoing Public Interest Litigation (PIL) concerning the polls. Minister Dass expressed optimism about potentially starting the election process by February 10, provided the court grants necessary clearance.
The completion of the electoral rolls represents a crucial step forward in facilitating smooth Panchayat elections and underscores the commitment to a robust democratic process in Assam, aiming to engage a diverse electorate across its districts.
