Manipur’s Inspiring Journey: CM Biren Singh Reflects on Promising Development Before May 3, 2023
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh addressed Good Governance Day at the secretariat, celebrating the state’s developmental strides and efforts toward efficient governance. Before the outbreak of violence on May 3, 2023, Manipur had been on a promising trajectory, hosting significant events like G-20 meetings, the Miss India competition, and a tri-nation football tournament.
Singh commended government officials and particularly the chief secretary for their roles in achieving good governance. He highlighted that December 25, the birthday of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, was designated Good Governance Day by the Modi administration in 2014.
Reflecting on his tenure since 2017, Singh noted the challenging law-and-order landscape upon assuming power, underscoring his commitment to prioritizing good governance through initiatives aimed at public welfare. He introduced schemes like ‘Meeyamgi Numit’ (People’s Day) to align governance with citizen needs and launched the ‘Go to Hills’ mission to bridge the divide between the hills and the valley.
Addressing the COVID-19 pandemic, Singh acknowledged the efforts of healthcare workers and officials in mitigating its impact. He stressed that without these efforts, the situation might have been more severe.
Singh reiterated the advancements made in Manipur before May 2023, emphasizing initiatives like the School Fhagathansi Mission, which considerably boosted enrollment in government schools by enhancing their facilities. Likewise, he praised the College Fhagathansi Mission and Chief Minister Artistesinggi Tengbang (CMAT) schemes as examples of effective governance.
During the event, a book titled ‘A Tribute to Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bharat Ratna on Centenary Birth Anniversary’ was released, underscoring the significance of good governance principles inspired by Vajpayee’s legacy. Singh closed his address by emphasizing the importance of fulfilling promises to maintain public trust.
