Outrage Erupts: Community Unites in Powerful Protests Over Tragic Tangla Siblings Murders
The tragic double murder of two young siblings in Tangla town, Udalguri district, Assam, has ignited widespread outrage and grief across the region. On Friday, the alleged kidnapping and murder of the brothers led to protests demanding justice and a thorough investigation into the crime. These demonstrations saw hundreds of citizens, led by the victims’ mother, Geeta Sarmah, gather outside Tangla Police Station to demand accountability not only from the accused but also from any potential accomplices, including the victims’ stepbrother, Neeraj Sarmah.
The protests, which included participation from groups such as Bir Lachit Sena, Raijor Dal, and AKRSU, called for swift legal proceedings and stringent punishment for those responsible. The community’s anger was palpable as they urged the police to leave no stone unturned in their investigation. The minors’ last rites were conducted on Monday, with hundreds attending to pay respects, followed by a candlelight vigil at Tangla Chariali where calls for justice continued.
In response to the growing public pressure, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime), Udalguri, Muzzafar Hussain, and Bhergaon SDPO Durga Kingkar Sarma addressed the crowd, assuring them of a comprehensive investigation and a prompt charge sheet. However, despite these assurances, the public’s demand for justice remains strong, as they are determined to see that all individuals involved in this heinous act are held accountable. The situation continues to develop as the community remains vigilant in seeking justice for the victims.
