The Guwahati Municipal Karmi Sangha has postponed its planned strike for December 26, 2024, after receiving assurances from officials concerning their demands for a Revision of Pay (RoP) and other issues. This decision emerged from an executive meeting on December 24, influenced by recent positive discussions with authorities.
The path to this decision began on December 19, when union representatives met with the Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs. The meeting resulted in promises for immediate action on their demands. A subsequent meeting on December 21 further advanced these discussions, making notable progress.
A decisive step occurred on December 23 during the 39th Mayor-in-Council meeting, where the proposed Revision of Pay was approved in principle. However, certain procedural steps are still to be finalized.
