Congress Stages Bold Protest in Kohima, Urgently Demands Amit Shah’s Resignation
On December 20, in Kohima, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) and the Kohima District Congress Committee (KDCC), supported by various associated organizations, held a significant demonstration at the Congress Bhavan premises. This protest is part of a larger national demand for Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s resignation. The call for his resignation stems from his controversial comments concerning Dr. BR Ambedkar, a pivotal figure in India’s constitutional history.
Khriedi Theunuo, NPCC’s Working President, condemned Shah’s remarks, asserting that they undermine the democratic principles on which India stands. The NPCC emphasized their demand for accountability from the government. Akuonuo Miachieo, PCC Secretary (Protocol), echoed this sentiment, expressing outrage and disapproval of Shah’s perceived disregard for India’s constitutional values.
In addition to these grievances, the protest highlighted other alarming incidents, including the reported death of Assam Youth Congress member Mridul Islam, allegedly caused by Assam Police, and the detention of Youth Congress leaders Zubair Anam and Uday Bhanu Chib in Guwahati. Lima Lemtur, President of the Nagaland Pradesh Youth Congress, decried these events as severe abuses of power and antithetical to democratic principles.
The protestors also criticized S Phangnon Konyak, a Rajya Sabha MP, for making false accusations against Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition. These accusations, according to NPCC, serve as a distraction from critical issues and an attempt to undermine Gandhi’s leadership. The NPCC has pledged to continue its protests until Amit Shah resigns, underscoring their dedication to defending constitutional integrity and democratic values.
Simultaneously, the Nagaland Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee (NPMCC) expressed shock over the defamatory claims against Rahul Gandhi by Phangnon Konyak. They described them as baseless and urged the MP to refrain from making unsubstantiated accusations.
