Urgent Alert: Assam Enforces Section 163 in Dispur – Strict Gatherings Ban Amid Law and Order Crisis
In an effort to uphold public order in Guwahati’s Dispur Capital Complex, Deputy Commissioner of Police for the East Police District, Mrinal Deka, has issued a prohibitory order. This measure is intended to avert potential disruptions by individuals, groups, or organizations that could impact the normal operations of offices, public movement, and traffic flow in the area.
Authorities are concerned about possible agitations, demonstrations, and slogan-shouting that might disturb public peace and tranquility. To prevent these occurrences and ensure daily activities proceed smoothly, the Deputy Commissioner has exercised his authority under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Surakshya Sanhita, 2023. This action aligns with a prior notification from the Assam Government dated December 24, 2014.
The order restricts any gathering of more than five people, along with agitations, demonstrations, processions, or slogan-shouting, within a 1-kilometer radius of the Dispur Capital Complex without prior permission from the appropriate authority. These restrictions will be enforced starting December 19, 2024.
By proactively addressing these concerns, the authorities aim to maintain peace and stability in the Dispur Capital Complex, ensuring public safety and the uninterrupted flow of daily life.
