Fiery Clash: Congress and BJP Lock Horns Over Amit Shah’s Controversial Remark on BR Ambedkar
BJP vs Congress: Protests Disrupt Parliament Winter Session
In a dramatic confrontation, the BJP and Congress engaged in protests during the ongoing Parliament Winter Session, leading to the adjournment of both Houses until 2 pm. The tension erupted after Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s comments on Dr. BR Ambedkar during a Constitution debate in the Rajya Sabha. Congress accused Shah of disrespecting Ambedkar, the Constitution’s architect, and demanded his apology and resignation. In retaliation, the BJP claimed the Congress doctored video clips to misrepresent Shah’s remarks, sparking their protest against the perceived insult of Ambedkar by the Congress.
The altercation escalated when Congress MPs, including Rahul Gandhi, reportedly clashed with BJP members. Allegations of physical misconduct surfaced as Congress MPs alleged they were physically obstructed and shoved by BJP members. These claims were echoed by BJP MP S. Phangnon Konyak, who accused Gandhi of inappropriate behavior.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to injured BJP MPs, while Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that BJP MPs physically assaulted him during a protest march led by the INDIA alliance. He has requested an inquiry into the incident.
The conflict has highlighted the symbolic significance of Ambedkar’s legacy, with both parties holding separate marches and raising slogans. BJP demanded Congress apologize for defaming Ambedkar, while Congress insists on Shah’s resignation.
Elsewhere, prominent figures like Shashi Tharoor and Arvind Kejriwal weighed in, calling for resolution and urging BJP to clarify Shah’s statements. Amidst this heated exchange, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have been adjourned till tomorrow, with ongoing demands from Congress for an apology from Amit Shah.
