Authorities recently uncovered details of a foiled kidnapping plot targeting veteran Bollywood actor Shakti Kapoor. The revelation surfaced during an investigation into the abduction of actor Mushtaq Mohammad Khan. Khan was kidnapped from Delhi airport and held in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, before he managed a daring escape.
The police apprehended four members of the gang responsible for Khan’s kidnapping. Bijnor Superintendent of Police Abhishek Jha revealed the gang’s tactic: enticing film stars under the guise of event invitations by offering advance payments and air tickets to build trust. Mushtaq Khan was ensnared by this ploy. He was forcibly taken en route to an event in Meerut and held hostage while the gang raided his bank account, withdrawing ₹2.2 lakh.
Shakti Kapoor narrowly escaped a similar fate due to his high advance payment demand, which thwarted the gang’s plan. According to a PTI report, the gang initially targeted Kapoor with an offer of Rs 5 lakh to attend an event. However, Kapoor’s insistence on more money derailed their scheme. SP Abhishek Jha remarked that Kapoor’s unexpected financial demand led the gang to abandon their kidnapping attempt.
Efforts are ongoing to capture the remaining gang members, including their leader, Lavi alias Rahul Saini. Investigations are also probing potential links to other abduction cases involving film personalities. The police have recovered Rs 1.04 lakh from the arrested suspects and are actively pursuing further leads.
In a connected case, gang member Arjun, involved in the abduction of comedian Sunil Pal, was injured and captured following a bid to escape police custody. Meerut SSP Vipin Tada confirmed the recovery of an SUV and cash related to Pal’s kidnapping.
This alarming development has shaken the Bollywood industry, revealing a sophisticated criminal network preying on celebrities.
