Heartbreaking Injustice in Tripura: 5 Arrested for Heinous Crime Against Minor Girl in South District
In a disturbing incident in Tripura, police have apprehended five young men for their alleged involvement in the gang rape of a minor in Santirbazar, located in the South District. The horrific crime was brought to light after the girl’s family lodged a formal complaint on Saturday.
According to Ashutosh Sharma, the Station Officer-in-Charge of Santirbazar police station, the complaint detailed that one of the accused abducted the minor from her home. He then took her to a nearby rubber plantation where he and four others perpetrated the crime. The following morning, the girl, visibly distressed, returned to her home and recounted her ordeal to her mother, who promptly reported the incident to the authorities at Manpathar outpost.
The suspects, identified as Shaktiya Reang (18), Nibhas Tripura (19), Subhash Reang (19), Lakshmidhan Tripura (18), and Jiban Tripura (21), have since been arrested. Following all necessary legal procedures, they were presented before the Belonia District and Sessions Court.
This alarming case underscores the urgent need for heightened security and deterrents to safeguard women and minors in vulnerable areas.
