Outrage Unleashed: Gaurav Gogoi Accuses Government of Disrespecting Vijay Diwas, Demands Justice for Iconic 1971 Surrender Photo’s Removal
On Vijay Diwas, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi criticized the government for not officially honoring the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the 1971 war. He pointed out that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, representing the Congress, took the initiative to ensure the House paid its respects during zero hour. Gogoi expressed disappointment at the lack of a government statement honoring the soldiers on this significant day, and noted that there seemed to be an attempt to prevent Priyanka Gandhi from addressing the issue. He claimed that only after considerable pressure from the Congress was she allowed to speak in the House.
Gogoi also raised concerns over reports suggesting the removal of the iconic photograph of the Pakistani Army’s 1971 surrender, a pivotal moment in India’s military history, from the Army Headquarters. He stated that their inquiries about the matter were met with silence from the government, prompting a walkout by Congress members.
Furthermore, Gogoi emphasized the Congress’s stance against politicizing the military, asserting that Indira Gandhi’s contribution and the sacrifices of Indian soldiers cannot be erased. The Congress has called on the government to avoid actions or omissions that could undermine the legacy of India’s armed forces and their historic achievements.
