Unveiling the Magic: Mizoram Winter Festival Returns with an Exciting New Plan on Dec 17
Guwahati: This year’s Winter Festival in Mizoram will meld culture and sport, highlighting a collaboration with the Pro Panja League for a unique celebration featuring arm wrestling. Scheduled for December 17, the festival will attract athletes from across the Northeast and showcase musical performances alongside gripping arm wrestling matches.
A standout feature is the participation of local hero Denic Lalruattluanga, a celebrated Pro Panja League athlete known for his triumph at the Asian Arm Wrestling Championship earlier this year. Denic has rapidly gained a fanbase in the region, and the festival will see him face off against international competitor Assanali Nurmagambet from Kazakhstan.
The festival also marks the announcement of the Northeastern Championship in 2025, dedicated to athletes from the region. The initiative is backed by the Mizoram Sports and Youth Department, Mizoram Sports Council, and the Mizoram Ministry of Tourism.
Pro Panja League co-founder Parvinn Dabass expressed his excitement about the sport’s reception in the Northeast and his pride in Denic’s achievements, foreseeing the event as a catalyst for the growth of arm wrestling in Mizoram. Mizoram’s Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Lalnghinglova Hmar, emphasized the cultural significance of arm wrestling in the region and hoped Denic’s success will inspire younger athletes.
The Pro Panja League matches scheduled for the festival include: – Mizoram’s Vanlallura vs. Assam’s Nilay Sankar – Assam’s Ishan Kashyap vs. Mizoram’s Kimkima – Kazakhstan’s Bekzhan Ramiyanov vs. Mizoram’s Lalnunpuia – Mizoram’s Raymond vs. Assam’s Tridip Medhi – Denic Lalruattluanga vs. Assanali Nurmagambet
The event will be live-streamed on the Zonet app and website from 7 PM, promising a thrilling intersection of sports and culture for enthusiasts across the region.
