Triumphant Victory: Manipur Security Forces Eradicate 50 Acres of Poppy, Totaling 160 Acres Cleared!
In a coordinated operation on December 13, the Ukhrul police, in collaboration with the 6th Manipur Rifles, the forest department, the 18th Assam Rifles, and the district administration, successfully destroyed 50 acres of poppy cultivation in the Khamasom Hill Ranges of Manipur. This recent crackdown is part of an ongoing initiative to eradicate illegal poppy farming in the region. The combined efforts have led to a total of 160 acres being cleared in the past few days.
Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh praised the operation on his official X handle, emphasizing the government’s unwavering commitment to eliminating drug activities within the state. Additionally, the security forces dismantled nine huts discovered in the fields. An FIR has been filed to facilitate further investigations.
The recent operation follows an earlier effort where the security personnel demolished 110 acres of illicit poppy plantations in the same area. During that mission, eight huts were also torched. These actions exemplify the persistent efforts of Manipur’s law enforcement agencies in tackling the challenges posed by poppy cultivation.
The operations highlight the state’s intensified campaign against drug production, signaling a resolute stance from the Manipur government and its security apparatus. The crackdown on poppy fields represents a significant stride in the broader mission to curtail drug proliferation and ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
