New Delhi, Dec 14: Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s enthusiastic endorsement of the Khadi industry during his monthly radio program ‘Mann ki Baat’, sales of Khadi products have surged in Bihar’s Samastipur district. This newfound popularity is especially notable among the youth, who are increasingly drawn to Khadi’s diverse and colorful offerings.
Dhirendra Karji from the Samastipur Sub-Divisional Khadi Village Industries Committee highlighted the strategic shift towards vibrant colors and stylish designs aimed at younger consumers. The Khadi collection now includes winter apparel such as shawls and jackets, available at various price points: mufflers are priced between Rs 300 to Rs 500, jackets from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000, and Kashmiri wool shawls ranging from Rs 2,000 to Rs 6,000.
Youthful interest in these redesigned garments has transformed Khadi from a traditional choice primarily worn by the elderly into a fashion-forward option. "Khadi is symbolic of Gandhiji’s legacy," stated local resident Anas Rizwan, emphasizing the growing appeal among younger generations. Sanjit Kumar, another local, remarked on the improved quality and variety now available, noting that such diversity entices a modern audience to embrace these designer offerings.
The Prime Minister’s campaign has created a groundswell of support, reflected in the significant financial success of Khadi Gramodyog, whose revenue surpassed Rs 1.5 lakh crore, marking a 400% sales increase. PM Modi has expressed his delight in witnessing people wearing Khadi with pride and reiterated that this heightened interest not only promotes cultural heritage but also significantly boosts employment opportunities.
The Khadi movement, driven by PM Modi’s initiative, continues to gain momentum across India, urging citizens to support this iconic industry.
