The 6th Dibrugarh Grantha Mahotsav commenced with great excitement at the Nirmali Gaon public playground on Friday evening, highlighting the region’s rich literary scene. Organized by “Khoj Asom,” this 12-day literary festival promises to be one of the largest in the area, stretching until December 24. The event has drawn over 200 renowned booksellers and publishers from throughout India, offering a vast array of literature across various genres and languages. Attendees can explore everything from children’s books and financial guides to popular Assamese, English, Bengali, and Hindi titles, catering to readers of diverse ages and interests.
The festival was inaugurated by Padma Shri Award winner and Asom Sahitya Sabha president, Surjya Kanta Hazarika, joined by notable figures like state minister and Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan, Dibrugarh University Vice-Chancellor Jiten Hazarika, author Karabi Deka Hazarika, and DHSK College Principal Sashi Kanta Hazarika. In his address, Surjya Kanta Hazarika emphasized the enduring appeal of physical books in the digital age, expressing delight over the enthusiastic turnout. He noted, “Despite the rise of online book purchases, the joy of holding a physical book and discovering new worlds remains irreplaceable.”
Beyond book exhibitions, the festival will host numerous literary and cultural programs, such as book launches, throughout its duration. This literary celebration not only reaffirms the cultural significance of traditional book fairs but also underscores the community’s unyielding passion for literature.
