Urgent: Assam Students Devastated by New Scooter Policy Restrictions
Assam’s Education Minister, Ranoj Pegu, has clarified the eligibility criteria for the Bani Kanta Kakoti Award (Scooty) for Class XII students in 2024. This announcement comes in response to confusion about the beneficiaries of this prestigious award, which seeks to encourage higher education in the state.
Minister Pegu stated that eligibility for the Scooty is determined by academic performance and location of further studies. Male students scoring 75% or above and female students scoring 60% or above in their Class XII exams, who also continue their higher education within Assam, qualify for the award. Eligible courses for this initiative include MBBS, Engineering, BSc (Nursing), LLB, and related fields.
Pegu further stressed that students who abandon regular courses for coaching or relocate to other states for their studies would not be eligible. This stipulation is intended to promote educational advancement within Assam and bolster local academic growth.
Named after a notable figure, the Bani Kanta Kakoti Award represents a significant effort by the Assam government to recognize academic excellence and retain intellectual talent locally. Particularly focused on empowering young women, this initiative is part of a broader strategy to elevate educational standards in the state.
Overall, the award scheme has garnered appreciation for its role in assisting students with their pursuit of higher education. It underscores Assam’s commitment to fostering an environment where students are encouraged to excel while contributing to the development of their home state.
