Union Minister Dr. Mansukh L. Mandaviya attended the 1st Hornbill E-sports Championship 2024, an event that garnered significant attention as part of the 25th Hornbill Festival 2024. Held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima, the championship concluded on December 7 and showcased the growing potential of e-sports in India. Dr. Mandaviya, the Union Minister of Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, emphasized the Government of India’s commitment under Prime Minister Narendra Modi to harness e-sports for youth empowerment, innovation, and economic development.
Organized by the Department of Youth Resources & Sports Nagaland in collaboration with LVL UP Consultancy, the championship featured competitive categories in popular games like BGMI and DOTA 2. In the BGMI segment, TWM Gaming emerged victorious, securing a cash prize of ₹1.20 lakh. The team members, Dzieseser Suohu, Kezhangutuo Metha, Areeb Naiyar, and Akash Kumar, were celebrated for their skills. Remorseless and Sin Official Mizo secured the second and third positions, winning ₹60,000 and ₹40,000 respectively. Additional winners included Vnom Esports and BO7S, along with several others, who shared the prize pool down to the tenth position.
In a closely contested DOTA 2 competition, Nagaland’s Generation of Miracles (GOM) team clinched the top spot with a reward of ₹1 lakh. True Strike followed in second place, while Your New Feeders (YNF) and Get Good Kid (GGK) secured third and fourth places. Moreover, Tiatoshi Lemtur triumphed in the FC24 (FIFA) tournament, taking home ₹25,000. Other notable performers were Tongtiejet Yaden, Onjang Vaiphei, and Pukhrambam Michael, who secured second to fourth places respectively.
This championship not only highlighted the talents of young gamers but also signified the pivotal role e-sports can play in the broader landscape of digital entertainment and youth engagement in India.
