On December 7, a collaborative effort by the Manipur Police, the forest department, and an executive magistrate led to the successful destruction of one acre of poppy plantation in Mao Pungdong, Mao-PS. This operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat illicit cultivation and trade in the region.
Meanwhile, security forces in the vulnerable hill and valley districts intensified their crackdown on illegal arms. In a significant operation in L. Jangnomphai, Kangpokpi District, authorities recovered a cache of weapons and explosives. The haul included a 7.62 mm sniper rifle, three pistols, a .303 bolt-action rifle, five hand grenades, and five Stardyne 90 explosives. Additionally, the team seized various types of ammunition: two 9 mm rounds, five 7.62 mm rounds, five .22 rounds, and more. Further, the operation uncovered critical items such as four electric detonators, a miniflare cartridge, anti-riot shells, and a Baofeng radio set.
These successful operations underscore the commitment of Manipur’s security and law enforcement agencies to maintaining peace and security in the region.
