Meghalaya CM’s Urgent Meeting with Rajnath Singh: Resolving Harijan Colony Families’ Future with Compassion
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma is set to seek the intervention of Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh regarding a proposal for the allocation of defence land to relocate 342 families from Harijan Colony, Them Iew Mawlong. Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar has confirmed that CM Sangma plans to meet with the Union Minister to discuss the state government’s initiative aimed at relocating these families to a more suitable location.
The decision to allot defence land will hinge on the outcome of discussions between CM Sangma and Defence Minister Singh. As of now, the government has yet to pinpoint a specific site for the relocation. However, Dhar emphasized the administration’s commitment to resolving the matter promptly.
Relocation efforts have been ongoing for years, with heightened urgency following violent clashes in 2018 that spotlighted the need for a sustainable solution. A committee was established in the aftermath of these clashes to evaluate the feasibility of relocating the community members.
The families of Harijan Colony have long awaited a resolution, and the upcoming meeting signals a potential turning point. The government’s proactive approach underlines its dedication to addressing a complex issue that has persisted for several years. As discussions progress, stakeholders hope for a swift and effective outcome that will finally provide a permanent solution for the impacted families.
