Agartala, 3rd December 2024: State Government’s Supreme Court Move Discontent SSA Teachers
The filing of a Special Leave Petition (SLP) by the Tripura state government in the Supreme Court over the Sarva Shiksha case has stirred dissatisfaction and anger among teachers engaged under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA). These teachers, led by representatives Bastab Debbarma and Sajal Deb, voiced their grievances to the press, highlighting what they see as the government’s failure to fulfill promises of job regularization.
Bastab Debbarma accused the state government of betrayal, noting the crucial support Sarva Shiksha teachers provided in propelling the BJP to power in Tripura during the 2018 elections. He emphasized that the ruling party had pledged to regularize their positions once in power, a commitment that remains unfulfilled to date. “The government is not taking a decision to regularize Sarva Shiksha teachers. The state government has cheated us,” said Debbarma, reflecting the growing disappointment among educators.
Echoing these sentiments, Sajal Deb also expressed frustration over the unmet promises from the government, underscoring the ongoing struggle for job security and proper recognition within the state’s educational framework. The discontent underscores the teachers’ ongoing fight for stable, recognized positions, a key issue affecting morale and efficacy in the education sector.
With the filing of the SLP, the situation becomes increasingly complex. The teachers now find themselves in a state of uncertainty as they await a definitive resolution to their demands through the judicial proceedings.
