Union Minister for Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, attended the Tikhir log drum pulling ceremony at the Naga Heritage Village in Kisama on December 3, a prominent event within the 25th Hornbill Festival 2024. This celebration, renowned as the “Festival of Festivals,” highlights the rich tapestry of Nagaland’s tribal cultures alongside global music and traditions.

Shekhawat expressed strong confidence in the festival’s potential to become the largest tribal festival globally, emphasizing its evolution into a truly international event. “This festival not only represents the diverse tribal cultures of Nagaland but also brings together music and traditions from around the world,” Shekhawat noted. His remarks came after participating in the vibrant cultural display at Kisama, where 16,087 visitors, including 317 foreign tourists, 4,041 domestic tourists, and 11,729 local attendees, gathered to witness the celebrations.

Acknowledging the diligent efforts of the state government and the Tourism and Higher Education Minister, Temjen Imna Along, Shekhawat praised the exceptional organization and execution of the event. He highlighted the integral role played by the Nagaland government in transforming the Hornbill Festival into a global cultural phenomenon and stressed the festival’s growing significance in boosting tourism in Nagaland and the wider Northeast region.

Shekhawat extended his gratitude to the Government of Nagaland for their tireless efforts in making the 25th edition a remarkable success, and he expressed optimistic views on the festival’s ability to enhance the tourism potential of the region significantly in the coming years.
