Tensions are running high in Manipur’s Kanto Sabal, Imphal West, due to the mysterious disappearance of Laishram Kamal Babu from a nearby Army camp. The incident, now a week old, has sparked a wave of protests led by local women, demanding the Indian Army’s accountability. Heading these protests is Babu’s wife, Akoijam Ningol Laishram Ongbi Belarani, who has vowed to remain at the Army camp until her husband is safely returned.

Belarani shared her distressing discovery of her husband’s disappearance on November 25, noting that his phone was unreachable, which led her to learn from a colleague that he was missing. In response to the mounting pressure, the Army has intensified search operations for Babu, who was employed as a work supervisor by a contractor with the Military Engineering Services at the Leimakhong military station. An FIR has been lodged with the Sekmai police station, and the Joint Action Committee (JAC) has issued an ultimatum, demanding swift action from the authorities to trace and rescue Babu. Protests continue throughout the Imphal valley, escalating the urgency for a resolution.
