Transformational Boost: Centre Approves Rs 3,296 Crore Mega Package for Tourist Hotspots in 23 States – PM Modi Vows Unwavering Commitment
The Indian government has sanctioned a substantial investment of Rs 3,295.76 crore to develop 40 projects across 23 states, aiming to elevate iconic tourist centers to global standards. Announced on Friday, this initiative is part of the Special Assistance to States/Union Territories for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme. Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the transformative impact of tourism on the economy and people’s lives, asserting the government’s commitment to enhancing India’s tourism infrastructure.
Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, shared that these projects will revitalize local economies and generate employment through sustainable tourism practices. The development plan includes projects such as the restoration of Gandikota Fort, Havelock Bridge, and Pushkaram Ghat in Andhra Pradesh, along with initiatives in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and other regions. Key highlights include the eco-tourism project in Kerala’s Ashtamudi backwaters and the underwater tourism initiative in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg.
The strategy focuses on decongesting popular sites, integrating advanced technology, promoting sustainability, and fostering public-private partnerships to boost infrastructure and enhance visitor experiences. With such measures, the government aims to offer visitors a world-class experience, showcasing India’s rich natural, cultural, and historical heritage. The SASCI scheme not only aims to attract more international tourists but also to position India as a prominent global travel destination.
