Tribeny Rai’s Film ‘Shape of Momo’ Gains International Recognition for Sikkim at Film Bazaar
GANGTOK – Tribeny Rai’s forthcoming film, "Shape of Momo," is attracting significant international attention for Sikkim, even before its completion. This acclaim follows its triumph as a joint winner alongside Ridham Janve’s "Hunter’s Moon" at the prestigious Work-in-Progress Lab, part of Film Bazaar 2024 held in Goa.
"Shape of Momo" was recognized among six outstanding films selected by the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC). The film, capturing the journey of a woman confronting patriarchal constraints, has brought extensive media coverage from outlets including the US-based ‘Variety.’ Tribeny Rai, the filmmaker from Nandok, Sikkim, has previously garnered multiple national awards for her short films, making this her first full-length Nepali feature.
The accolade at Film Bazaar brings with it various in-kind support from entities like Prasad Lab and Nube Studio. The awards were given at the Marriott Resort in Panjim, attended by notable figures such as Prithul Kumar, joint secretary of Broadcasting, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and Jerome Paillard, former head of the Cannes Market.
Rai expressed her excitement about showcasing Sikkim on an international platform and noted that the international delegates now have a greater awareness of her native region. "Shape of Momo" has been shot mainly in and around Nandok and is now advancing towards its post-production stage. Despite receiving support from the Work-in-Progress Lab, additional funding is still required to complete this challenging independent film project.
Rai affirmed the significant hurdles faced in filmmaking due to financial constraints, further highlighting the necessity for securing additional resources to finalize the film, emphasizing the substantial costs associated with the post-production phase.
