Revolutionary CBRN Medical Management Centre Approved at Visakha Institute: A Game-Changer for Healthcare Safety
A new secondary-level Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) medical management center is set to be established at the Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) in Visakhapatnam. This development follows a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Andhra Pradesh and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Director K. Rambabu of VIMS highlighted that the chosen 1.5-acre site, located near the lab and diagnostic center on the VIMS campus, is well-suited for the facility. Approach roads from all four sides will facilitate the swift movement of ambulances transporting patients. Designed to swiftly handle industrial accidents involving chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear elements, the center aims to streamline victim care by serving as a central hub, thereby reducing hospital transfers and delays. VIMS professionals have received specialized training at the Kudankulam Nuclear Plant in Tamil Nadu for handling nuclear fire injuries. Construction is expected to commence soon and the facility is projected to be operational within six months. An earlier inspection by a joint State-Central team took place in August 2024.
