Urgent Plea: Tripura Congress Calls on Human Rights Body to Address Communal Tension Crisis Now
Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee President, Ashish Kumar Saha, has appealed to the Tripura Human Rights Commission to address human rights violations in the state. In a letter to the Commission’s Chairman, Saha detailed the dire situation in areas like Gandacherra, Kadamtala, and Kaitarbari, urging immediate action and a visit to these affected regions.
In his plea, Saha highlighted several alarming trends. He described conditions in Gandacherra where individuals are confined to relief camps, their personal liberties stripped away. He pointed out a surge in crime, with frequent murders reported statewide. The plight of women, he stressed, is particularly troubling, asserting that they are unsafe despite the ruling party’s slogans like “Beti Parao Beti Bachao,” which he contends mock the reality of women’s safety. Saha noted an alarming increase in rapes and criticized the lack of security for women as well as reports of human rights abuses occurring even within police custody.
Furthermore, Saha critiqued the Human Rights Commission’s inadequate response to these grave issues, suggesting that the body has not implemented effective measures to curb or prevent human rights infringements in Tripura.
Concluding his letter, Saha urged the Commission to take decisive actions to halt these violations and emphasized the importance of a timely visit to the troubled regions of Gandacherra, Kaitarbari, and Kadamtala to assess the situation firsthand. His communication reflects mounting concerns about safety and justice in Tripura amidst rising conflict and unrest.
This appeal serves as a significant call to action, seeking accountability and proactive intervention from the Human Rights Commission to restore peace and safeguard human rights in affected areas.
