In an intriguing revelation by filmmaker Mansoor Khan, it emerged that actress Kajol was originally offered a pivotal role in the Shah Rukh Khan starrer "Josh," but she turned it down. Kajol, whose on-screen chemistry with Shah Rukh Khan has enchanted audiences in films like "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge," was considered for the role of SRK’s sister in the film.

Mansoor Khan, known for successes like "Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak" and "Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar," initially approached Kajol with the script. He recounted, "I narrated the film to Kajol because I wanted her to play the sister. After Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, this was the ultimate sacrilege." Despite Mansoor’s intent, Kajol declined, expressing she preferred to play the character Max instead.

Following Kajol’s departure, Aishwarya Rai was cast and delivered a memorable performance as Shah Rukh Khan’s sister. Mansoor praised her professionalism, stating, "Aishwarya agreed to do the film. She was a thorough professional." The director even considers "Josh" to be one of Aishwarya’s best performances.

Interestingly, the film’s casting saga also involved initial reluctance from Shah Rukh Khan, who assumed his role would be filled by Aamir Khan. Mansoor had also intended to cast Aamir in another significant role, which eventually went to Chandrachur Singh.

Mansoor Khan retired from filmmaking in 2003 to pursue a life of farming in Coonoor but briefly returned to contribute to the debut film of Aamir Khan’s nephew, Imran Khan. Currently, he’s involved in producing a film for Aamir Khan’s son, Junaid Khan.
