Urgent: Nine Bangladeshi Nationals Pushed Back for Illegal Infiltration – Assam CM’s Bold Action
Guwahati, November 19 (IANS): The Assam Police successfully thwarted an attempted infiltration by Bangladeshi nationals, arresting nine individuals who were later deported back to Bangladesh, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. This incident unfolded in Karimganj district, situated along the international border with Bangladesh. The arrested individuals were identified as Md Mamun, Abbu Naim, Rashed Islam, Morad Ali Mandal, Md Asraful Haque, Md Basir Hawladar, Md Robiul Hawladar, Md Mahabat Ali, and Md Mohim Hossain.
Chief Minister Sarma announced the development via social media, highlighting the alertness of Assam Police in identifying and apprehending the infiltrators swiftly. The vigilance along the border has been intensified, especially in light of recent unrest in Bangladesh leading to increased poverty levels after the political shift following Sheikh Hasina’s government’s departure.
Sarma acknowledged the challenge of illegal immigrants acquiring Aadhaar cards; however, he emphasized that they have not managed to register in the voter lists in Assam. He reassured that the authorities act promptly, returning infiltrators before they can initiate any voter registration processes. The nine were intercepted around 5 AM and deported by 9 AM, demonstrating the efficiency of border management efforts.
The Chief Minister conveyed the government’s commitment to enhancing measures to detect and prevent illegal immigration from Bangladesh, acknowledging the possibility that not all infiltrators may have been apprehended by security forces. He pointed to economic hardships in Bangladesh as a motivating factor for individuals, primarily from the Muslim community, to cross the border in pursuit of employment opportunities.
This operation underscores the Assam government’s ongoing vigilance and dedication to safeguarding its borders, ensuring that illegal crossings do not disrupt the region’s security or electoral integrity.
