Apple Nostalgia: iPhone XS Max and 6s Plus Go Vintage, Apple Watch 2 Becomes Obsolete – Must-Read Tech Update!
Apple has recently updated its list of vintage and obsolete products, a move that may impact some of its users. The addition of the iPhone XS Max, released in 2018, and the iPhone 6s Plus, launched in 2015, to the vintage category means reduced repair options for these devices. The vintage classification applies to Apple products that have been on the market for over five years. Also included in this list is the Apple Watch Series 2 with a ceramic casing.
The obsolete list, which includes products that have been sold for more than seven years, now features the aluminum and stainless steel variants of the Apple Watch Series 2 and the iPhone 6s Plus with 32GB of storage. Obsolete products cannot be serviced through official Apple channels as they are no longer supported, leaving users with third-party repair options that may not be cost-effective.
In other developments, Apple has discontinued its lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter, which was essential for users of iPhones without a headphone jack. This product has reportedly sold out across many online stores worldwide.
Looking ahead, Apple might launch an updated version of AirTag, a personal tracking device, by 2025. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the next-generation AirTag, currently codenamed B589, is in the testing phase.
These updates reflect Apple’s continuous product lifecycle management, focusing on innovation while phasing out older technologies. While this means some products are losing support and parts availability, it also signals potential advancements with upcoming products, offering users improved experiences with new releases.
