Revolutionizing India’s Roads: Embrace the Exciting Shift to 5G-Enabled, AI-Powered Smart Cars by 2025
New Delhi, Nov 17 (PTI) – In 2025, India is poised to usher in a “smartphone era” for cars, incorporating 5G M2M connectivity and advanced AI technologies. According to Techarc’s India Connected Consumer Report 2025, the automotive sector will leapfrog directly to 5G technology, bypassing 4G. The focus for consumers is shifting towards enhancing their vehicles’ features, quality, and experience over exploring multiple smart devices.
Starting in 2025, Indian passenger cars will integrate 5G M2M connectivity, cloud connectivity, and on-device GenAI, democratizing advanced technologies across different price brackets. In-vehicle computing and AI capabilities will facilitate real-time data processing, optimizing driver support. Standard in cars priced above ₹20 lakh, these technologies promise to redefine automotive experiences currently seen as luxury.
The report highlights a rising consumer interest, with 55% becoming aware of smart/connected cars recently. Applications expected to feature in these cars include communication apps, OTT entertainment, music streaming, and vehicle maintenance tools. Techarc AutoTech Analyst Sadat Ahanger notes that such integrated tech will enhance the overall experience, comfort, safety, and entertainment for drivers and passengers alike, becoming mainstream by 2025.
Currently, MG Motors leads in providing connected cars, followed by Kia Motors and Tata Motors. Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki also appear among the top five brands. India’s robust automotive manufacturing sector, producing nearly 5 million vehicles annually, positions the country to dominate the global 5G M2M market.
The report is based on a survey of 4,500 “connected consumers” from metro and non-metro cities, defined as those owning at least three smart devices in addition to a smartphone. This transition marks a significant shift towards innovation and connectivity in India’s automotive industry.
