Celebrating 20 Years of ‘Aitraaz’: Subhash Ghai Unveils the Powerful Sequel ‘Aitraaz 2’
Mumbai, Nov 13: Celebrating two decades since the release of the Bollywood film “Aitraaz”, filmmaker Subhash Ghai has announced a sequel, “Aitraaz 2”. Ghai took to Instagram to share the exciting news, providing fans with a nostalgic still of Priyanka Chopra from the original movie. In his post, Ghai applauded Priyanka for her fearless and unforgettable portrayal in the film, noting her initial apprehensions about taking on the role of an ambitious woman. Despite her hesitations, Priyanka delivered a powerful performance that remains etched in the memories of cinephiles even after 20 years.
Originally released on November 12, 2004, and directed by the renowned duo Abbas–Mustan, “Aitraaz” was a significant commercial success. The romantic thriller, produced by Ghai’s Mukta Arts, explored the sensitive theme of sexual harassment, a subject that was both bold and ahead of its time in Indian cinema. Loosely inspired by the 1994 film “Disclosure”, it told the gripping tale of a man wrongfully accused by his female superior.
Ghai, a luminary in the world of Hindi cinema, is celebrated for his impactful films from the 80s and 90s, including hits like “Kalicharan”, “Karz”, “Khalnayak”, “Pardes”, and “Taal”. Founding Mukta Arts Private Limited in 1982, he went on to produce influential works, earning accolades such as the National Film Award in 2006 for “Iqbal”.
The filmmaker’s most recent work, “36 Farmhouse”, released in 2022, showcased his enduring storytelling prowess. Written by Ghai and directed by Ram Ramesh Sharma, the film starred notable actors such as Amol Parashar and Sanjay Mishra.
“Aitraaz 2” promises to bring a refreshing narrative with three years of meticulous script development, as teased by Ghai. Fans and cinephiles undoubtedly await this new chapter with great anticipation.
