PM Modi Sounds Alarm: Exposes JMM-Congress’ ‘OBC Division’ Strategy in Jharkhand Assembly Polls
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking at an election rally in Bokaro, intensified his attacks on the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-Congress alliance, accusing them of attempting to divide Other Backward Classes (OBC) for political benefit. Jharkhand is gearing up for its Assembly elections on November 13 and 20, and Modi’s remarks come during this politically charged period.
Modi criticized Congress for historically opposing unity among Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and OBCs, arguing that the party has thrived by keeping communities divided. He warned voters to be wary of the Congress-JMM’s “evil designs” and claimed they could go to any length to gain power. In Jharkhand’s Chotanagpur region, where over 125 sub-castes are categorized as OBCs, Modi alleged that the alliance plans to incite division among these groups, jeopardizing their unity and political representation.
Meanwhile, in Potka, Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused the JMM-led coalition of fostering illegal immigration. Shah claimed they have created a welcoming environment for Bangladeshi infiltrators, who, in turn, encroach upon tribal lands and take job opportunities from local youth. Shah reassured voters that the BJP would ensure the deportation of illegal immigrants, vowing that no infiltrators would breach Jharkhand’s borders under their governance.
The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) also became a focal point, with Shah accusing the JMM and Congress of disseminating “misleading propaganda” about its impact on tribal rights. He assured that the BJP would protect tribal communities’ interests concerning the UCC.
In the upcoming elections, 81 Assembly seats are up for grabs. In 2019, JMM secured 30 seats, BJP 25, and Congress 16, whereas, in the previous election cycle, BJP emerged stronger with 37 seats, while JMM and Congress secured 19 and 6, respectively.
