Honoring Legacy: Celebrating the 98th Birth Anniversary of Ustad Kamini Kumar Narzary in Kokrajhar with Heartfelt Reverence
The 98th birth anniversary of Ustad Kamini Kumar Narzary, a luminary in Bodo cultural promotion, was commemorated in Kokrajhar on November 9. Recognized as a master of the traditional Bodo Bagurumba dance and a cultural ambassador, Narzary’s contributions were celebrated at the central office of All Bodo Harimu Apha. The event began with a flag hoisting, led by Bijuel Nelson Basumatary, President of the organization, followed by tributes to Narzary’s enduring legacy.
Among the prominent attendees was Assam’s Cabinet Minister, Urkhao Gwra Brahma, who expressed profound admiration for Narzary’s impact on Bodo culture. Minister Brahma announced government plans to back the establishment of a regional dance academy named after Narzary, aimed at preserving and promoting the traditions he fervently championed.
Born on November 9, 1926, in Kokrajhar district’s Bamnakura village, Narzary not only mastered the Bodo Bagurumba dance but also elevated Bodo cultural heritage on global platforms. Although he passed away on May 16, 1998, his legacy continues to influence and inspire. The event featured an insightful discussion about Narzary’s significant role in enriching the Bodo cultural landscape and how his efforts in dance and music not only preserved tradition but also fostered cultural understanding on larger stages.
In honor of his contributions, the Bodoland Territorial Region Government officially declared the anniversary as “Boro Harumu Shaan,” a day dedicated to celebrating his cultural impact. The event attracted cultural enthusiasts and community leaders and showcased performances such as the Bodo Bagurumba dance, symbolizing the vibrant heritage Narzary devoted his life to promoting.
