Compassionate Call to Action: Nagaland Government Urged to Honor and Support IRB Jawans
The Rising People’s Party (RPP) has called on the Nagaland government to address the challenges faced by India Reserve Battalion (IRB) jawans from the state, focusing particularly on their low travel and daily allowances (TA/DA) for duties away from home. The RPP proposed increasing the TA/DA to at least Rs 1,000 per jawan. This appeal comes after the commendable recognition of former parliamentarians during the Nagaland Legislative Assembly’s 60th anniversary on October 29, contrasting with the insufficient appreciation shown towards the brave jawans set to be deployed for upcoming assembly elections in Jharkhand and Maharashtra in November.
The RPP highlighted past issues during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where jawans were inadequately supported, receiving only Rs 550 as TA/DA, and some even succumbed to heatstroke while serving in harsh conditions across the country. The party criticized the ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party-BJP coalition government for this oversight and urged them to avoid similar errors in the future.
Reflecting on these concerns, the RPP asserted that by increasing allowances, the state would demonstrate its maturity and gratitude towards the jawans who render selfless services for both Nagaland and the nation. The party believes this action would convey a powerful message of respect and appreciation for the pivotal role these soldiers play.
