Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stone for a 150-tonne-per-day e-methanol plant in Kandla, Gujarat. The project is expected to support India’s green energy transition while creating thousands of jobs and promoting cleaner maritime fuels.
With an investment of more than Rs 1,200 crore in its first phase, the plant is designed to produce 150 tonnes of e-methanol daily. At full capacity, it will manufacture approximately 50,000 tonnes annually.
The facility is expected to generate over 3,500 direct and indirect employment opportunities, boosting industrial activity and economic development in the region. E-methanol is being positioned as an alternative green fuel for the maritime sector, with the project aimed at supporting lower-carbon shipping and advancing India’s broader energy-security goals.
The foundation-laying ceremony also underscored cooperation among the Assam and Gujarat governments and the Union government in advancing large-scale green energy initiatives.
