India’s Bold Rebuke of Pakistan at UN: Unmasking Mischievous Provocation and Political Propaganda
India has responded sharply to Pakistan after Islamabad raised the Kashmir issue at a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting, characterizing the move as “mischievous provocation” and “political propaganda.” This response came during a Right of Reply issued by India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish. He criticized the Pakistani delegation for indulging in misinformation at the UNSC’s Open Debate on ‘Women Building Peace in a Changing Environment.’
Ambassador Harish highlighted concerns regarding the plight of women belonging to minority communities in Pakistan, highlighting data from Pakistan’s Human Rights Commission that reportedly indicates around a thousand women from minority groups face abduction, forced religious conversions, and marriages annually.
This incident follows Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s call at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) for India to reverse its abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, equating the region’s struggle to that of the Palestinian cause. In response, India’s First Secretary at the UN, Bhavika Mangalanandan, condemned Pakistan’s stance, criticizing its track record in promoting terrorism and other transnational crimes while branding its military-led governance as a hypocritical critic of democratic India.
She emphasized the irony of Pakistan, a nation with history of rigged elections and violence, positioning itself as a critic of democratic processes, while recalling multiple terror attacks sponsored by Pakistani elements on Indian soil. This exchange underscores the ongoing tensions and rhetorical clashes between the two countries on international platforms.
