In a significant development, Manipur Police have apprehended a 51-year-old man accused of robbing Rs 6.49 lakh from UCO Bank’s Kakching Bazar branch. The arrest occurred within a week of the October 17 heist, with the police recovering over Rs 3 lakh, used weapons, and masks from his possession. This breakthrough was achieved through diligent technical analysis, including meticulous examination of CCTV footage and interviews with bank staff and customers present during the incident.
Investigation revealed the suspect, masked and armed with a firearm and knife, entered the bank, spoke in Hindi, and threatened an employee to access the cash. After securing the money, he swiftly fled the scene. The police’s robust manhunt subsequently led to the identification and arrest of Naorem Romeo, a resident of Kakching Panji Leikai, under Kakching Police Station’s jurisdiction.
