Urgent Alert: Dengue Cases in Gurgaon Escalate to 104 – Intensive Fever Survey Extended in Delhi
The number of dengue cases in Gurgaon has risen to 104 this year, with four new cases reported on Thursday. The surge in cases, particularly in areas like Wazirabad, Bhangrola, and Gurgaon, has become a pressing concern as 28 cases were reported in the first 10 days of October. Although no deaths have occurred yet, the health department has intensified its rapid fever survey, screening 1.5 lakh houses so far this month, according to Dr. Jai Parkash, Deputy CMO and District Malaria Officer.
The department is conducting both door-to-door surveys and passive surveillance through hospitals. In response to the rising numbers, 25 beds in the Civil Hospital and additional beds in three subdivisional hospitals have been allocated for dengue patients. On Thursday alone, 192 samples were collected, 36 rapid tests conducted, and 217 cases of larvae detection were reported.
Authorities have advised the public to observe a ‘dry day’ on October 13 by checking for stagnant water, wearing long-sleeved clothing, and using mosquito repellents. Dr. Parkash emphasized the importance of seeking medical attention for symptoms, rather than self-medicating. Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon is continuing fogging operations in both urban and rural areas.
Historically, the district reported 276 dengue cases with one casualty in 2023, compared to 440 cases in 2022 and 327 in 2021. Dr. Satish Koul from Fortis Gurgaon noted a significant rise in dengue cases following recent rainfall, particularly in urban areas, with up to 60% of fever patients testing positive for dengue in his OPD.
As temperatures are expected to decrease soon, a drop in dengue cases is anticipated within a month, potentially curbing mosquito breeding. Dr. Koul also advised individuals with obesity to take extra precautions during the dengue-prone season.
