Outrage Over Barak Valley’s Deteriorating Roads Dampens Puja Celebrations | Guwahati News
Barak Valley Infrastructure Woes Unresolved: Public and Organisers Voice Frustration over Road Conditions
In Barak Valley, the state of deteriorating roads has sparked frustration among locals and event organizers alike. Residents expressed disappointment, noting that Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, promised during a recent visit to repair roads before the Durga Puja celebrations, a pledge that remains unfulfilled. Key routes such as the Silchar-Shillong (NH-6), Assam-Tripura (NH-8), and Silchar-Aizawl (NH-306) have yet to see any significant improvement. Additionally, a visitor reported that a particularly dilapidated road near the Tarun Club Puja committee pandal has been causing inconvenience for festival-goers.
In related updates, various communities across India gear up for the Durga Puja festivities. In Prayagraj, the Bengali Welfare Association has assembled a 14-member expert committee to evaluate Durga Puja idols and pandals, focusing on elements like facial expressions, arrangement, and volunteer management. The committee includes prominent figures such as Ravindra Nath Kushwaha, Shefali Gupta, and Megha Bose.
Meanwhile, in Pune, the Bengali community is ensuring an authentic culinary experience by bringing in skilled cooks from West Bengal to prepare traditional dishes such as khichuri, labra, and payesh for the Puja celebrations. Some pandals intend to offer free meals, while others will charge, emphasizing both cultural heritage and devotion.
Jaipur is also preparing for vibrant Durga Puja festivities, featuring around 70 pandals with unique attractions. Highlights include the historic Durga Bari at Bani Park and the distinctive Statue of Liberty-themed pandal by the Sarbojonin Puja Utsav Samiti. These celebrations will encompass various rituals, cultural programs, and community events, promising a grand and memorable experience for attendees.
As various regions prepare for the festivities, the unresolved road issues in Barak Valley underscore the need for urgent attention and action from authorities.
