PM Modi’s Momentous Visit: Strengthening Ties and Inspiring Unity at ASEAN-India and East Asia Summits in Laos
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a two-day official visit to Laos from October 10 to 11, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). During this visit, he will participate in the 21st ASEAN-India Summit and the 19th East Asia Summit, both critical regional forums. Laos, currently serving as the chair of ASEAN, will host these summits in its capital city, Vientiane.
On the invitation of Sonexay Siphandone, the Prime Minister of Laos, Modi’s visit underscores the importance of India’s relations with ASEAN, which are pivotal to the country’s Act East Policy and Indo-Pacific vision. This year marks a decade of the Act East Policy, a significant milestone in India’s foreign relations strategy aimed at enhancing political, economic, and cultural ties with nations in the Asia-Pacific region.
During the ASEAN-India Summit, Modi will join other leaders to evaluate the ongoing progress of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and ASEAN, and to outline future directions for cooperation. Additionally, the East Asia Summit serves as a premier platform for leaders to discuss and share insights on critical regional concerns, fostering strategic trust among participating countries.
Prime Minister Modi is also expected to conduct bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the main summits, further solidifying India’s diplomatic engagements in the region. These interactions are crucial for addressing issues of mutual interest and enhancing regional collaboration.
The participation in these high-level summits underscores India’s commitment to playing a proactive role in regional affairs, reinforcing strategies and partnerships that promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
