Junior Boys’ U-17 Football Team from Meghalaya to Compete in Paris
Guwahati: The junior boys’ U-17 football team from Myngken Christian HS School in Meghalaya has been invited to participate in the upcoming Indo-French football tournament in Paris, scheduled from November 25 to 30.
Hailing from Ri Bhoi district, the team recently clinched the runners-up position in the 63rd Subroto Cup International Football Tournament in New Delhi.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma lauded the team’s international invitation, commenting on their spirit and passion. “The boys have demonstrated extraordinary fervor, making the nation proud,” he stated. Sangma expressed optimism about their growth and representing India in Paris, the city that recently hosted the Olympics.
Echoing similar sentiments, Meghalaya Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Shakliar Warjri praised the young athletes for their stellar performance in the Subroto Cup. “Their participation on an international platform is a moment of pride for Meghalaya. We extend our full support to them,” Warjri added.
This achievement marks a remarkable period for Meghalaya football, with the state U-17 boys’ team winning gold at the Khelo India Youth Games and local team Shillong Lajong FC reaching the semi-finals of the prestigious Durand Cup.
The 16-member touring squad for Paris will include two goalkeepers, a coach, a manager, and a state representative, poised to showcase their skills on an international stage.
Meghalaya’s football scene continues to soar, with local talent making significant strides on both national and international platforms. All eyes will be on Paris as the young boys aim to make their mark in the Indo-French football arena.
