Boeing’s Irresistible Final Offer: An Unmatched Proposal That Empowers Workers
Striking Boeing workers rallied at the Boeing Portland Facility in Oregon on September 19, 2024, as their strike continued into its second week. In response, Boeing presented a “best and final” contract offer to over 30,000 machinists, aiming to break the impasse that has significantly disrupted aircraft production.
The revised proposal includes a 30% wage increase over four years, enhanced from a previously proposed 25%. Additionally, it reinstates annual bonuses and doubles the ratification bonus to $6,000, among other improvements. Boeing has set a deadline for ratification by Friday at 11:59 p.m. PT.
The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers has yet to comment on the new offer. The strike, the first since 2008 for the unionized workforce, is driven by the machinists’ demands for wages that accommodate the escalating cost of living in the Seattle area.
