Fiery Rebellion: Doctors’ Emotional Reaction to CM Mamata’s Tea Offer Amid Kolkata Protest
Junior Doctors in Kolkata Reject Mamata Banerjee’s Offer Amid Ongoing Protest

Junior doctors in Kolkata continued their protest at Swasthya Bhawan on Sunday, rejecting an offer of tea from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The protest began following the rape and murder of a colleague last month. The doctors had initially requested that their meeting with Banerjee be recorded, a request the government denied.
Dr. Aqeeb, spokesperson for the protesting doctors, explained that they were willing to compromise on having the meeting live-streamed and later even dropped the recording demand, asking only for a written record of the meeting. However, they were told that no action could be taken due to delays. Banerjee invited the doctors to her residence for talks and promised to provide a video recording of the meeting after obtaining court permission, but the doctors were dissatisfied and left without a resolution.
The protest intensified after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, and Abhijit Mondal, the officer-in-charge of Tala police station. They were charged with delays in filing the FIR and tampering with evidence. Dr. Aqeeb emphasized the need for accountability, calling Ghosh’s actions an "institutional crime" and demanding the resignation of all those involved.
Despite Banerjee’s personal appeal for a meeting over tea, promising to share the recording post court approval, the junior doctors stood firm in their protests, seeking immediate justice for their deceased colleague.
