BBMP Contractor Files Complaint Against MLA Munirathna for Alleged Harassment
Bengaluru: A Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) contractor, Cheluvaraju, has lodged a complaint with the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner against Rajarajeshwarinagar MLA Munirathna, accusing him of harassment and physical assault.
In his complaint, Mr. Cheluvaraju alleged that in 2021, the MLA demanded ₹20 lakh to procure 10 auto tippers for waste management. To meet this demand, he claimed he had to sell his mother’s gold ornaments. However, the autos were never sanctioned by the BBMP.
Upon inquiring about the contract’s status, the MLA allegedly showed a letter of recommendation he had written to the BBMP Chief Commissioner. Mr. Cheluvaraju then sought advice from a former ward councillor, who advised him against paying the MLA and assured him of helping to secure the contract instead.
The complaint further alleges that the MLA summoned Mr. Cheluvaraju to a meeting with contractors and officials, during which he was insulted. Prior to this, the MLA had called him to his house, which Mr. Cheluvaraju avoided. Post-meeting, the MLA allegedly demanded more money and wrote to the BBMP to cancel tenders when he did not comply. In a fit of rage, the MLA allegedly slapped Mr. Cheluvaraju multiple times and verbally abused him over a phone call in 2024.
To support his claims, Mr. Cheluvaraju has released an audio recording of a phone conversation between him and the MLA. The incident has raised serious questions about the conduct of public representatives and the alleged misuse of power.
