Tripura Congress to Stage Powerful Protest Against Police Bias Amidst Heartbreaking Flood Crisis on September 23
The Tripura Congress has announced plans to protest on September 23 outside the office of the Director General of Police (DGP), citing alleged police partiality against its members. This move comes amid severe flooding in the state and growing criticism of the government’s response to the crisis.
Asish Kumar Saha, President of the Tripura Congress Committee, accused the police of selectively neglecting FIRs and complaints against the ruling party while targeting Congress workers with false charges. “Tripura Police are not working impartially. They fail to take actions that would go against the ruling party,” Saha said at a press conference. He emphasized that the protest aims to highlight the perceived governmental insensitivity during the ongoing flood disaster.
Saha declared, “For these reasons, we have decided to gherao and stage a protest in front of DGP Tripura Police Amitabh Ranjan on September 23.”
Supporting these accusations, AICC Secretary Christopher Tilak pointed out the issue of unemployment in Tripura, criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi for failing to deliver on his pre-election promise of creating two crore jobs annually. “65 percent of India’s population is under 40 years of age. The BJP has been in power in the country for the last 10 years. Before coming to power, the Prime Minister promised to provide two crore jobs a year but did not keep that promise,” Tilak commented.
Tilak also drew attention to the state’s high rate of violence, which exceeds the national average. He harshly judged what he called the “double engine government” – BJP in power both at the Centre and state – accusing it of misleading the public and contrasting it with the developmental work of previous Congress administrations.
In summary, the Tripura Congress is set to protest against alleged police bias amid a larger backdrop of criticism over the state’s handling of flood relief and worsening socio-economic issues.
