Assam’s Breakthrough: Orunodoi Scheme Heroically Extended to Empower 20 Lakh More Lives
Assam Expands Orunodoi Scheme to Benefit 37 Lakh People
GUWAHATI: Assam’s Orunodoi Scheme will now extend its coverage to an additional 20 lakh beneficiaries, bringing the total to 37 lakh people. This significant expansion, announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma after a crucial meeting on Monday, marks the launch of Orunodoi 3.0.
Under the new phase, ₹1,250 will be transferred into the bank accounts of these 37 lakh women during the initial stage. This marks a substantial increase from the scheme’s inception on October 2, 2020, which initially covered 19 lakh people with a payment of ₹850 per beneficiary. Currently, it provides ₹1,000 per month through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme.
Taking to X, CM Sarma expressed his satisfaction with the scheme’s evolution. “All beneficiaries will need to have both Aadhar and ration cards,” he stated, highlighting the increased support from ₹850 to ₹1,250. He emphasized the positive transformation the scheme has brought to the lives of the beneficiaries.
The first phase of the expanded scheme is scheduled to commence on September 30, aiming to ensure that each beneficiary receives ₹2 lakh, further solidifying the state’s commitment to women’s financial empowerment and well-being.
