Tragedy at Tamil Nadu Fireworks Factory: Two Dead, Four Injured
In a tragic incident on Saturday evening, a blast at a private fireworks factory in Kurippankulam village, under the Nazareth police jurisdiction in Tamil Nadu, resulted in the deaths of two workers and left four others grievously injured.
The explosion, which took place at Sivasakthi Fireworks Factory, was caused by friction while workers were mixing highly inflammable chemicals to produce fancy crackers, according to police reports. The blast completely destroyed the factory’s godown.
Emergency services were promptly deployed, with Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services personnel extinguishing the ensuing fire after a strenuous effort lasting several hours.
The deceased workers have been identified as K. Muthukannan, aged 21, and T. Vijay, aged 25. The injured, which include two women, are receiving medical treatment at Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital and Sathankulam Government Hospital.
Nazareth police have registered a case and arrested Ramkumar, the owner of the factory, in connection to the incident.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed his condolences through a post on ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter). He announced an ex-gratia of Rs three lakhs for the families of the deceased and Rs one lakh for the injured workers.
This unfortunate event highlights the persistent safety concerns in fireworks manufacturing industries and calls for stricter enforcement of safety regulations to prevent such incidents in the future.
