Tragic Turn: 30 Workers Injured in Heart-Wrenching Vehicle Overturn Near Maratha Ground in Arunachal
An unfortunate accident near Maratha Ground on August 30 injured 30 workers following the overturning of a Tawang Forest Division vehicle. The mishap occurred between 2.30 pm and 3 pm when an overloaded Max pick-up truck was returning from a plantation drive. The vehicle was carrying more than 30 workers, both men and women.
Though the Tawang Forest Division attributed the incident to brake failure, Mon Tawang Vigilance has raised concerns, suggesting overloading might be the actual cause. They highlighted the department’s practice of transporting over 40 workers daily in a single Max pick-up truck, which violates traffic and transportation regulations.
Medical records revealed that approximately 30 workers were assessed for injuries. Ten of them, including Sang Norbu from Khobleteng village, have been admitted to Khando Drowa Zangmo District Hospital in Tawang. Norbu has been referred to a military hospital in Teli for further treatment due to the severity of his injuries.
Upon his return from a meeting in Itanagar, Tawang Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Piyush Gaikwad provided immediate financial assistance, distributing Rs 5,000 to each injured worker. He also assured that all medical expenses would be fully covered upon submission of medical bills.
This incident has sparked concern about the Tawang Forest Division’s transportation practices, calling attention to the importance of adhering to traffic regulations to prevent such accidents in the future.
