AV Ranganath, the head of HYDRA, has finally spoken out about the controversial demolition of Akkineni Nagarjuna’s N-Convention center in Madhapur, shedding light on the long-standing dispute. Nagarjuna had earlier taken to his X (formerly Twitter) account to assert that the construction of N-Convention was legal, claiming he owned patta land.
In a recent interview, Ranganath provided crucial clarifications. He confirmed that while N-Convention was indeed built on patta land, such land is designated solely for agricultural purposes, not for constructing commercial buildings. Additionally, Ranganath pointed out that the entire structure lay within the Full Tank Level (FTL) zone, an area where construction is strictly regulated.
Ranganath also revealed that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) had issued a preliminary notice about the unapproved construction back in 2014. In response, the owners of N-Convention took the matter to the High Court, which mandated that a land survey be conducted in the presence of the owners. Following this survey, the GHMC issued a second notification reaffirming the illegality of the construction.
Further complicating matters, Ranganath noted that the owners had tried to regularize the building under the Building Regularisation Scheme (BRS) but had been unsuccessful in obtaining the necessary permissions for the last decade.
